The 5 Golden Rules of Lifting to Keep Your Back Safe

Many of us have heard it time and time again, but still continue to lift heavy objects incorrectly! Picking up something heavy by bending at the waist with straight legs forces our back to act as the primary lifter (causing the lower back muscles to overstretch and strain!)

Here are some tips to help keep your back safe when lifting ~

1. Keep your feet nice and wide
2. Use your LEGS to lower into a squat (bend your knees and push your bum out)
3. Keep your back as upright and straight as possible
4. Engage your core, grab the object and push back up through your LEGS!!! (a good way to get those glutes working ladies)
5. Hold the object close to you

oh and… Don’t forget to breathe! 🙂

Let those powerful legs do what they were meant to do!
